Scottsdale, AZ, September 13, 2013 – Wayne Smolda, CEI’s founder and chief executive officer, announced today that Jerome Webber, vice president of global fleet operations for AT&T, has been named the 2013 Fleet Executive of the Year.
Mr. Smolda presented the award at the Automotive Fleet & Leasing Association’s annual meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. CEI sponsors the award, for which nominations are received by Fleet Financials magazine. Mr. Webber was chosen as the winner from a field of four nominees by a panel of judges drawn from the fleet industry.
Mr. Webber, a 26-year veteran of AT&T, has been engaged in the company’s fleet operations for the past six years. With a staff of more than 1,100 direct employees and contract personnel, he manages a fleet of 74,500 vehicles across 50 states, two U.S. territories and more than 20 foreign countries. His responsibilities include policy, strategy, environmental compliance and fleet repair and maintenance.
Among Mr. Webber’s career accomplishments, Mr. Smolda cited his leadership in integrating the fleets of BellSouth, Cingular and YP.com, as those companies were merged into AT&T. In 2010, under Mr. Webber’s leadership, the company awarded the most comprehensive vehicle repair and maintenance contract in its history, consolidating them under one national provider. He has also overseen the firm’s commitment to alternative fuel vehicles and a program aimed at adopting lighter, more sustainable materials in its vehicle specifications and reducing garage waste streams.
Mr. Webber is the 12th winner of the Fleet Executive of the Year Award, which was created to acknowledge the vision and leadership of executives at the level of assistant vice president and above whose responsibilities include and go beyond fleet.
